Project duration:

6 Months

Role & Responsibility:

UX/UI Designer

Project type:

Healthcare

Context

Despite all the languages spoken in Chicago, prescription medication and supplemental information is mostly only provided in English. For limited English proficient (LEP) Chicagoans who speak other languages at home, there exists a language barrier when it comes to understanding crucial prescription and over-the-counter drug information, resulting in an increased risk of severe health deterioration, permanent disability, or death.

Non-English Speakers
in Chicago

Of the 2.71 million people living in Chicago,

23% speak and understand “less than well or no” English. That means 623,300 Chicagoans

are limited English proficient (LEP).

How Language Barriers
Effect Health Care Quality

Confusion among healthcare providers and a lack of sufficient translating resources reduce healthcare quality for LEP patients (LEPPs).

Reduced patient satisfaction

and increased risk of adverse reactions from medication misuse

due to low comprehension of drug information.

Personalize

With issues from language barriers in mind, the language option is designed to be at the first stage before leading users to other processes on the app.

[02]

Beneficial

The end users are divided into two types; general and premium users to monetize the platform, as well as to help boost business growth.

[03]

Information

The design of the wireframe prioritizes scanning features and outstanding layout in order for users to quickly and conveniently scan and get access to the medication information.

Drug Information

After scanning the medication, the Drug Information section displays medication details such as its type, usage instructions, contraindications, and storage recommendations.

Home

The Home page serves as a display of the user's medication history, a kind of recipient's history, which is considered the crucial information for the user. The CTA of scan feature will be shown on this page for ease of use and simplicity in navigation.

Profile

The Profile section displays a user's medication history, including allergies and usage limitations. This information is updated regularly and provides reminders.

Languages

Users can now select their preferred language. This setting will determine the language used to communicate with medicine dispenser and display information on the application.
